John Guthrie 2008

30" x 22"
watercolour, graphite on paper

John Guthrie reflects on the idea of “Fetish”, in its religious and erotic connotations. The paintings present abstracted shapes that might be read as objects of reverence from a mysterious tribe, or alternately as stylized depictions of the human form. Each successive work in the series has sprung from the one before, giving the work a sense of continuity and evolution. John’s deft use of watercolours and his uncanny sense of composition make these works bold and memorable.

Backside is a watercolour work on (archival) paper with distressed edging. The black background shown in the photo is not part of the piece.
